Babban Gonais an award winning, high impact, financially sustainable and highly scalable social enterprise that is part-owned by the farmers we serve. Babban Gona, was created to specifically attract youth to agriculture and away from the looming instability of extremist groups.
We accomplish this by franchising thousands of farmer cooperatives across Nigeria, dramatically increasing the profitability of the smallholder members 2.5 times above the national average. This dramatic increase in net income is accomplished by delivering an integrated holistic package of training, farm inputs and marketing services, on credit. Babban Gona has been able to deliver this credit while maintaining one of the highest repayment rates in the world, currently above 99%, leveraging our comprehensive 8 levels of risk mitigation.
As we prepare for the next phase of our growth we are looking for a COO to leverage a digital transformation to scale our organization to serve 10 million customers by 2030 and manage a supply chain that will move 10 million metric tons of agricultural produce and inputs.
Building one of the world's largest supply chains
Our goal is to provide a platform to enable 10 million individuals run their own successful agricultural based SME’s. To accomplish this we need to provide the SME’s the key inputs they will utilize to run their SME’s and provide a supply chain to help them market their products. The COO would lead the development and launch of digital transformation to enable the organization to scale its supply chain in challenging remote, rural environments to serve our 10 million customers.
Building a best in class field service team
Today Babban Gona has one of Nigeria’s largest field service organizations with hundreds of field officers ensuring the agricultural SME’s we serve are successful. The COO will be responsible for developing and launching a strategy to develop a next generation field service organization that utilizes technology to empower our Third-Party partners to take on many of the roles a field service team member carries out today, to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy
- Develop and continuously iterate the organization's supply chain, logistics and sales strategy by liaising with key functional leaders in finance and technology to identify gaps and propose best in class solutions
- Implement an RFID inventory tracking system to track our current nearly 1 million inventory items
- Define data-driven action strategies to consistently optimize our commercial performance
Supply Chain
- Identify, design and implement customer-centric and technology-first process improvements within the supply chain and logistics to ensure efficient, on-time distribution of inputs and produce aggregation from our farmer members
- Deeply understand customer needs and adjust service delivery model to efficiently serve our farmer members
- Pilot, measure and iterate on new acquisition and expansion models to allow the business to reach its ambitious scale target of 10 million farmers by 2030
Sales
- Lead efforts in recruiting, managing and retaining our small-holder farmer customers and our produce buying customers
- Lead the organization's revenue base growth from our current $20 Million to over $5 Billion by 2030
Leadership and Team Development
- Build, develop, evaluate and retain a strong team of sales and supply chain professionals
- Support growth and retention through mentorship and coaching
- Develop a strong performance driven culture of owning and exceeding targets
- Ensure that the sales and supply chain organization operates with integrity and to the highest ethical standards
- Develop and maintain a plan that provides for succession and continuity in the most critical Sales and Operations positions
Implementing a Digital Transformation to Scale a Supply Chain and Field Service Organization
- Deep leadership experience in a supply chain, logistics and field service/sale intensive organization that has leveraged a digital transformation strategy to accelerate rapid scale
