Build Babban Gona Labs, the World’s Highest Impact Technology Organization
Babban Gona aims to be the world’s highest impact organization, empowering 10 million families to rewrite their story. Our success to date can be traced to the fact that technology innovation has always been in our DNA. Our passionate and committed technology team of over 20 software engineers, product managers and product support team members, has developed and launched over a dozen applications to support the scaling of our impact - including the region's first Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning decision support application for smallholder farmers.
As we prepare for the next phase of our growth we are looking for a CTO to build Babban Gona Labs, a dedicated technology organization to develop a comprehensive suite of technology solutions to enable 10 million families lift themselves out of poverty by 2030. Success in the role would include building an engineering and product team to develop highly innovative technology for challenging, low data coverage, and low-resource rural communities.
Advance Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Application
Babban Gona has one of the largest fleets of motorcycles in Nigeria with hundreds of field officers visiting smallholder farmers fields and gathering thousands of data points daily on the complete farming lifecycle. As the head of Babban Gona Labs you would leverage this valuable data to build Advance AI tools for smallholder farmers and our team to use to drive increased impact.
State of the Art Supply Chain and Logistics Solutions
Today Babban Gona is the largest maize producer and one of the largest distributors of agricultural inputs in Nigeria, producing and moving the equivalent of 6 to 7 ocean liners of product per year. As the head of Babban Gona Labs you would leverage your deep experience building supply chain and logistics technology to build a technology platform to scale our systems to move 10 million metric tons of agricultural produce from and agricultural inputs to our members, leveraging thousands of third party logistics and supply chain partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy Development
? Develop and continuously iterate the organization's technology development road map by liaising with key operational leaders to identify gaps and propose best in class solutions. (Examples would include leveraging AI enabled drone systems to autonomously assess at risk farmer fields.)
? Leading engagement with the larger technology community to provide thought leadership that strengthens Babban Gona's position as an innovator and leader in high impact technology development.
Technology Operations
? Lead all technology operations including but not limited to Engineering, Product Innovation, Data Science, Security & Infrastructure and Business Intelligence
? Develop and lead a collaborative and agile software development approach that improves velocity, while maintaining a strong focus on quality and scalability
? Direct the design, planning, implementation, and maintenance of the computing infrastructure that supports the company’s operations and business applications
? Establish metrics for managing effectiveness of deployed technology and for measuring the impact of technology on the business
? Establish a comprehensive enterprise information security program to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of relevant data
? Identify emerging technology trends and ensure the company is leveraging them when appropriate to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and drive value
? Establish and enforce technology policies, processes, portfolio management, development standards and methodologies
? Prepare and monitor technology operational budgets that meet prevailing objectives and constraints
? Ensure that the organization has strong systems analysis and project management skills, and the ability to execute business-critical projects within agreed deadlines
? Develop and execute an analytics program that will allow company business leaders to make data-based decisions
Leadership and Team Development
? Build, develop, evaluate and retain a highly-qualified team of 50 technology professionals
? Support growth and retention through effective mentorship and coaching
? Create a culture of innovation, transparency and accountability in the technology team
? Develop and maintain a plan that provides for succession and continuity in critical technology management positions
Implementing and Scaling Digital Transformations in Supply Chain/Logistics
? Deep leadership experience in a supply chain and logistics intensive organization that has leveraged a digital transformation strategy to accelerate rapid scale
Managing Complexity
? Extensive experience leading a complex organization and passion for getting into details to identify root cause of issues and create innovative solutions
? Thrives in a fast paced, start-up environment with dynamic business priorities.
