The role:
Apply to join the Region 1 Community Affairs team! This group manages and distributes information for ODOT projects in the region. You will actively participate on project teams, prepare and implement community outreach and public engagement plans, and represent ODOT at community events and meetings.

This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to last one year. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service.

We may also fill this position as a rotational assignment open to current State of Oregon employees. Rotation candidates are not required to meet the position’s minimum qualifications.

A day in the life:
Develop and implement outreach and engagement plans for a diverse community of stakeholders.

Prepare public involvement and notification project scopes and estimates.

Lead consultant teams, manage timelines, and review work products.

Keep up to date with projects through research and contact with project managers and staff.

Represent ODOT to external audiences affected by our work. Represent the community to internal audiences.

Prepare written materials, maintain stakeholder databases and manage distribution of project communications.

Plan and manage community outreach events.

Manage production of project videos and online open houses.

Draft press releases and materials; work with ODOT Communications and the region’s public information officer on media actions.

Prepare social media plans and copy; work with ODOT Communications on implementation.

Work with interpretation and translation specialists to provide project communications to diverse audiences.

Work primarily in an office environment with some work in the field, at outdoor project work sites.

As an essential employee, may need to work 24 hour shifts or be available via cell phone during emergencies.

What we need:
Five years experience directly related to the position under recruitment; two of the five years must have been at the professional level.

OR

A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, the Behavioral or Social Sciences or related degree and two years professional level experience in Public Relations or Affairs.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships internally and externally.

This opportunity is scheduled to last one year, but could change based on business needs.

Rotational candidates do not have to meet the position's minimum qualifications to be considered.

The successful candidate may be eligible for work out of class compensation within this classification's salary range.

Relocation and per diem will not be paid.

Upon completion of this assignment, employee will return to their permanent position.

The assignment can be terminated at any time, by either party, without prejudice.
