Responsibilities:Herd Management:Oversee the daily care and management of the goat herd, including feeding, health checks, and disease prevention.Implement breeding and kidding programs, ensuring optimal reproduction rates.Monitor the growth and performance of individual animals.Nutrition and Feeding:Develop and manage nutrition programs, including feed formulation and ration balancing.Procure and distribute feed supplies.Monitor feed quality and consumption to ensure optimal nutrition.Breeding and Genetics:Manage the breeding program, including heat detection, artificial insemination, and natural mating.Maintain accurate breeding and performance records.Implement genetic selection and improvement programs.Health and Disease Management:Monitor herd health, administer vaccinations, and implement health protocols.Address diseases, injuries, and parasites promptly.Ensure the humane and ethical treatment of animals.Pasture and Grazing Management:Oversee pasture rotation, management, and improvement programs.Ensure sustainable and efficient forage utilization.Implement soil fertility and forage enhancement strategies.Record Keeping and Data Analysis:Maintain comprehensive herd records, including health, breeding, and performance data.Analyze data to make informed decisions for herd improvement.Generate reports and provide insights to optimize management.Facility and Infrastructure Management:Maintain and manage farm infrastructure, including shelters, fences, and water systems.Plan and oversee construction and maintenance projects.Ensure farm safety, cleanliness, and organization.Requirements:Minimum academic qualification of HND/BSc in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or a related field.Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in small ruminant nutrition, management, and care, with a specific focus on goatsStrong knowledge of feed formulation, ration balancing, and nutritional requirements for small ruminants, particularly these specific breeds.Familiarity with herd health management, reproductive techniques, and breeding strategies in exotic goats like Boer and Kalahari Red.Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.Possessing a deep understanding of small ruminant nutrition, strong management skills, and specific expertise in the care of exotic goat breeds like Boer and Kalahari Red
