Job position- Staff Counsellor Work location – Maiduguri (or any other field base as assigned)
Reporting to– HR Coordinator

General Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the HR Coordinator, the Staff Counsellor facilitates the prevention and management of stress in the workplace. Identifying and managing workplace critical incidents and mental health-related challenges, proffering resolutions to problems associated with staff members, impaired personal concerns including, but not limited to: health, marital, family, financial, alcohol, drug, legal, emotional, stress or other personal concerns which may adversely affect their job performance. While adhering to professional ethical principles for psychologists, code of conduct and INTERSOS guidelines.
Task and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the HR coordinator, the staff counsellor will undertake the following tasks:
· Provides day to day counselling and psychosocial support to all INTERSOS staff
· Performs individual assessments in the case of individual staff members experiencing difficulty coping with and/or presenting with mental health-related symptoms; follows up for additional intervention if indicated; maintain case records, reports and statistics.
· Performs critical incident stress management interventions, either individually or in a group format, whenever and wherever required; work closely with Security Section, Administration, and Medical Section, inter alia, in coordinating and providing critical incident stress management.
· Provides training sessions and workshops on crisis and stress management, conflict resolution and other topics as required.
· Develops, organize and implement a resilience-building programme for all staff.
· Provides Psychological First Aid (PFA) after an emergency
· Provides skype, online or telephone psychological counselling support to staff members
· Provides bereavement and grief supportive counselling
· Provides day to day psychological support and maintain regular contact with the families of INTERSOS staff affected by a critical incident
· Performs any other task as assigned.
Professional requirements
· Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Psychiatry with clinical license to provide psychological counselling or psychotherapy specialized in trauma counselling
· Additional training or certification in a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse, stress management, cross-cultural psychology or Psychiatry, conflict resolution would be an asset.
· Minimum 7 years professional experience in psychological counselling, with special emphasis on managing critical incident stress and trauma
· Prior experience in an INGO is required.
Personal requirements
· Fully conversant with common computer software, i.e. MS Word, Powerpoint and Internet;
· Fluency in spoken and written English (Mandatory)
· Fluency in spoken and written Hausa (Mandatory)
· Fluency in other local languages would be an asset
· Good communication skills and ability to conduct training and awareness
