Job Description
We are an Agriculture marketplace in Nigeria. Last year our platform fed Nigerians for 1 day – this year we target to feed Nigerians for 7 days and to take that to the rest of Africa from 2021. We have done this by building a marketplace platform that brings together key actors in the Agriculture market-place; Farmers, Community Aggregators, Warehousing companies, Logistics companies, Food Processors. The model is 24 months old, in 2018 our first yr we delivered 5,000MT of grains which increased Into 38,000MT. We fed Nigeria for 1 day in 2019.
We could have delivered double the MT but our key bottlenecks were ;
Logistics.
The funnel of logistics is Dispatch, In-Transit, On-Queue at the site, Accepted. On average in the last 6 months of 2019, we dispatched from the Community Aggregators (who aggregate produce from the farmers). This funnel efficiency would need to be operating at 90% of dispatched versus delivered.
The optimal planning process to ensure a cadence of monthly to weekly to daily planning of optimal routes and eventual operating metrics reporting to allow critical insights to become clear for action
Some critical functions of the model like pricing performed based on a not fully developed and not optimal process that was losing us margins
In the last 2 months of the year, we have worked with a top consulting firm to look at the bottlenecks and define ways of working, tools, frameworks to use to increase our logistics capacity, plan better to increase our delivery rate and price in a more optimal way. We have also established a control tower which ensures planning, performance analysis and reporting happens seamlessly.
We have started to operationalize these in the business and you as the successful Business Analyst would become part of this control tower team and work with Cellulant in Nigeria to blitz scale our model and feed Nigerians for 7 days in 2020.
What you do on a day to day ;
Business Analyst – Planning & Reporting
You are the custodian of the 3-year financial model, you prepare plans for the month based on this the model that is discussed and analyzed with the team to bring qualitative input on coming up with the optimal plan that is cascaded to team KPIs and individual KPIs.
The plan is used in the day to day stand up sessions to guide discussions that optimally ensure we achieve the goals and gives clear direction on what teams need to get done.
You report to the head of Control tower and work with the team data officers to report on the day to day dashboards on key defined operating metrics, determine deviations from plan and reasons around this and work closely with the Head of the control tower, people performance team and COO to remedy the deviations.
You work with the MIS team and Tech to automate the daily and monthly dashboards.
Role requirements
A degree in Data Analytics/Engineering/Statistics/Actuarial Science/ Finance/Economics
5-7 years experience in consulting eg in Bain, BCG, Mckinsey etc an associate or analyst in PE/Venture capital firms or investment banking background, or with a background in corporate finance.
Industry experience in technology businesses, FMCG/supply chain businesses is a good addition but not a must
